What Is Isekai?
Isekai (異世界, "another world") is a genre where the protagonist is transported, reincarnated, or otherwise moved from their ordinary life into a fantasy or game-like world. It's one of the fastest-growing manga and light novel genres, spawning hundreds of series over the past decade. What makes isekai compelling is the power fantasy element — protagonists often arrive with unique abilities, cheat skills, or prior-life knowledge that lets them reshape the new world around them.
Many isekai series began as web novels or light novels before being adapted into manga, which means reading order can get complicated. Some franchises — like Sword Art Online — have multiple separate manga arcs adapting different light novel volumes. Our guides tell you exactly which volumes belong to which arc and the recommended order for each franchise.
