Haikyuu!! is a complete manga by Haruichi Furudate, published 2012–2020 in 45 volumes. It follows Hinata Shoyo, a short volleyball player inspired by a legendary small player called the “Little Giant,” as he joins the Karasuno High volleyball team with his rival-turned-partner Kageyama Tobio. Haikyuu!! is universally praised as one of the greatest sports manga ever written — it makes volleyball genuinely thrilling without ever sacrificing character depth. Haikyuu Reading Order
1. Karasuno Rebuilding / Aoba Johsai Arc (Volumes 1–15)
Hinata and Kageyama develop their unstoppable “quick attack” combination and lead Karasuno back toward competitive volleyball. Their rivals at Aoba Johsai — led by the exceptional setter Oikawa — provide the first major tournament challenge. The Spring Interhigh arc sets the competitive stage.
2. Spring High Tournament Arc (Volumes 15–33)
Karasuno enters the national Spring High Volleyball Tournament. Match after match, each opponent is given enough depth to feel like the protagonist of their own story. The Shiratorizawa match (featuring Ushijima Wakatoshi) is the series’ first emotional climax.
3. National Tournament / Final Arc (Volumes 33–45)
The national tournament features Karasuno against the best teams in Japan, including Nekoma (the “Cats vs. Crows” match that fans waited 400 chapters for). The time-skip epilogue delivers one of manga’s most beloved endings.
