One Punch Man is an ongoing manga originally created as a webcomic by ONE and redrawn by Yusuke Murata for Shueisha from 2012 onward. It follows Saitama, a hero who trained so hard he became bald — and can now defeat any enemy with a single punch. The comedy and existential irony of an overpowered hero in a world that doesn’t understand him is the series’ core. Murata’s artwork is widely regarded as the most technically accomplished in manga history. The series is ongoing with 28+ volumes as of 2026.

One Punch Man Reading Order
1. Hero Association Arc (Volumes 1–7)
Saitama teams up with cyborg Genos and joins the Hero Association — a bureaucratic organization that ranks heroes by public popularity. Satirizes shonen power escalation while delivering genuinely thrilling fights. The Sea King battle is the series’ first emotional peak.
2. Alien Conquerors / Dark Matter Arc (Volumes 7–12)
The alien Boros invades Earth with an armada. Saitama vs. Boros is the most technically accomplished fight in the series — and deliberately one-sided. The arc asks: what does a fight feel like when you can’t be hurt?
3. Monster Association Arc (Volumes 13–28+)
The Monster Association kidnaps a child, and the Hero Association launches a massive raid. The longest arc in the series features S-Class heroes fighting simultaneously against an enormous roster of monsters. Garou the human monster develops into one of manga’s most compelling anti-hero arcs.

Frequently Asked Questions About One Punch Man
- Should I read the manga or webcomic first? Read Yusuke Murata’s manga version (Vol. 1 onward). It is the definitive version with extraordinary artwork. The original ONE webcomic has the same story in rough art style — read it if you want to see the source material after the manga.
- How many One Punch Man volumes are there? One Punch Man has 28+ volumes as of 2026. The manga is ongoing.
- Is One Punch Man funny or action? Both. It is a parody of shonen battle manga that takes its fights completely seriously. Saitama’s deadpan humor contrasts with genuinely spectacular action sequences.
- Is the One Punch Man anime worth watching? Season 1 (2015) by Madhouse is excellent — some of the best animation ever produced. Season 2 (2019) by J.C.Staff is significantly weaker. The manga has better art than both seasons.
